Why have we decided to begin a new AA group?

AA is a mutual support Group. We are a group of friends who each identify as being part of the LGBTQ+ population. Additionally we each identify as having alcoholic tendencies. As we are seeking a safe place to call our own home group of AA, and we get much in return from helping other alcoholics to achieve and maintain sobriety; we have determined that the time is ideal for us to begin a new group of AA to hold space for others who may be looking for what we have found. Which is joy and happiness, as well as a sense of purpose in abstaining from alcohol.

I completely support your effort to establish this group. Please know you have supporters outside the LGBTQ community but within the shared experience of recovery. At the end of the day, we are one.

Congratulations on your new endeavor! I used to go to the Freedom Club in LA back in the 80s and it was always a great time. Wishing you much success in carrying the message to the still suffering alkies (in and out of the rooms).

Some of the greatest suffering I’ve witnessed has been in the rooms by folks who are sober but still unable to feel connection or love. I’ve certainly been there myself. Be Brave!
